We have grown our school quite simply due to its solid foundations with the very best instructors, all trained by an ORDIT trainer, all continuing to receive quarterly reviews and completion of CPD programme (Certificate of Professional Development). It is simple; people pass with us, people recommend us.
Driving School Wirral has very high standards and is known as the driving school that gets results.
At Driving School Wirral we have decided to train our own instructors through the Academy to ensure only the best individuals are recruited. Post qualification we continue the training of instructors in business management, diary planning, and customer and quality service. We also offer a mentoring and coaching programme to ensure a smooth transition form PDI to successful ADI to enable a long and happy career within the driver training industry.
To become – an Approved Driving Instructor (i.e. an ADI). You will need to pass three tests set by the Driving Standards Agency, (DSA). Because of this it will understandably take a few months to fully qualify.
The requirements – to become an ADI. You have to have held a full driving license for at least three and half years and have no more then 6 penalty points on your driving license. You will also have to provide two references and be able to read a number plate at 90 feet (with glasses if normally worn). All the information is needed is contained in the ADI 14 Pack. You will also need to disclose any caution or convictions current or spent for motoring offences and non-motoring offences.
You have to complete a Criminal Record Bureau check. In order to process this you will need to log onto www.gov.ukdvsa become a driving instructor. All the information you need is contained on these web pages, but your trainer can assist you with any queries.
The CRB form may take several weeks to process, but when returned you then go online to the www.gov.uk apply to become an ADI web page, and complete the ADI 14 Form and provide the CRB reference number. The Driving Standards Agency will then send a letter confirming that you are on their register for ADIs.
Training – is tailored according to the individual’s circumstances. It is designed to accelerate you through each test in the shortest possible time. Most people who train to become driving instructors hold down a job at the same time. We recognise this and this is why our course is specifically designed to fit around your current job or other commitments. So whether you train full or part-time is up to you. Either way, it is a proven formula.
You will be hard pushed to find better quality of tuition on offer. What’s more, your training will be local! This will ensure you get the best possible training and once qualified prove invaluable.
To qualify – as an ADI you need to pass three tests.
You are allowed as many attempts as needed to pass the part one. But the part two and three must be passed within three attempts. So quality training is a necessity and solid practice required.
PART 1 TEST – THEORY AND HAZARD PERCEPTION
The exam costs £81.00 paid directly to the Driving Standards Agency
The test takes 1hr 30 minutes and comprises of 100 multiple choice questions on a variety of driving and instructional topics. The 100 questions are split into four bands. There is a choice of four answers to each question, one of which is the correct answer. In order to pass the theory part successfully you need to get 20 or above within each section. The overall score you need to pass for the theory is 85 or above.
As part of the Part One test you will also be shown 14 video clips of hazards about to develop on the road whilst driving. You will be required to click as soon as you see the hazard. To pass the section successfully you need to get 57 or above.

The second half hour the examiner will play the role of a pupil who is nearly at test standard. The examiner will play the role of the pupil and you will be the instructor. You will be tested on your ability to instruct and deliver a lesson.
At Driving School Wirral Training Academy we deliver a comprehensive course to cover all aspects of the part three exams. You will receive a PART THREE INSTRUCTION WORKBOOK and we recommend you have access to the Aim4Succes website for online tutorials
To complete the course you will receive 40 hours in car training on a one on one basis (no classroom situations like other establishments). You will be provided with a comprehensive folder containing all the information that you require to pass the exam.
When you have qualified as an ADI, there will be an opportunity to work part or full time and tailor your earnings to suit your lifestyle and family commitments, you are your own boss and can work when it suits you and your customers.
Job Security – is something we all strive for. In these uncertain times you never know whether your job is safe. Things can be fine today, but who knows whether things will be the same next year, in five years or in ten years.
What is certain is the driving instruction industry is and has always been stable. With about one million births every year in the United Kingdom there is a constant and steady flow of people wanting and needing to learn to drive. This has been the case for the past twenty years and the trend is set to continue. There are also rumors that Britain may follow other European countries and require learner drivers to only have professional tuition. That can only be good news for ADI’s.
What we do know is that an average 97% of people who learn do drive have professional tuition. Recent changes within the industry will ensure that this remains the case and will increase the earnings potential of the ADI. These changes include the Theory Test, the retraining of driving offenders; the Pass Plus advanced driver-training scheme and the introduction in recent years of the longer driving test. There has also been a sharp increase in fleet training for employees of companies in defensive driving; Insurance Companies are demanding this to cut down on the number of accident claims.
There are other training establishments in the North West who will offer job opportunities at the end of your course. However I can say with certainty that we are the only school that retains its instructors. Further more there are no over inflated franchise fees, no complicated contracts and always a waiting list of potential customers.
We need you to come on board and help train people to become safe drivers for life
We look forward to hearing from you
Regards Carol Hetherington
